Course: BA (Hons) Musical Theatre - 3 years, full-time
Course Details
UCAS Code: BA/W312
Guildford School of Acting is one of the world’s most successful Conservatoires for Musical Theatre training with alumni appearing in the West End, on Broadway and across the globe. We provide a personalised, industry-focused education within the discipline of an ensemble to develop skills and abilities in preparation for a successful, rewarding and sustained career in Musical Theatre.
The BA Musical Theatre programme is a triple threat training in which skills of singing, dancing and acting are equally balanced to develop professional and collaborative sensibilities combined with professional rigour. Students take modules in acting, singing and dancing along with projects that are designed to integrate technical skills. As the student progresses through the three years the training becomes more sophisticated, leading to a year-long season of productions in the third year.
An important emphasis of the training is maintaining both physical and mental well-being as a ‘healthy performer’ and gaining an understanding of professional industry practices.
In Year One, students attend weekly practical ensemble singing classes, small group repertoire classes and one to one singing tutorials, dance classes in tap, ballet, jazz and a full range of acting classes.
In Year Two, students integrate their techniques connecting physical, vocal and mental skills with the material of a varying musical theatre repertoire. They also undertake classes introducing them to the industry, such as audition technique and professional development, plus a short screen acting course.
In Year Three, students develop professional practice through audition classes, combined with musicals performed in a range of theatres to a paying public, a showcase, masterclasses and meetings with agents, casting directors and other industry professionals.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Scholarship will be awarded by the School as part of the audition/selection process on the basis of merit. The Scholarship will cover course fees and £750 per annum towards living costs and will be reviewed on an annual basis. There will be one available Scholarship for the year 2024/25.
Please note that applications made directly to The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation will not be considered.
