Following substantial cuts to its government funding in 2016, Creative Access has been awarded £45,000 over three years to provide off-the-job training programmes for paid interns from BAME backgrounds. Working with creative firms including the National Theatre, BBC, Almeida, Paines Plough and Royal Shakespeare Company, 6 and 12 month-long internships will include access to a mentor, induction days, masterclasses, pastoral support, networking, CV clinics and interview training for young people. The Watts Gallery Trust

The Watts Gallery Trust will use their grant from the Foundation to restore the renowned arts and crafts masterpiece Watts Chapel. Promoting the appreciation of Victorian artist G F Watts and ceramic artist Mary Seton Watts, the trust promotes the Compton area as a centre for Victorian art and social history. Preserving the unique artistic interiors of the chapel for future generations, the grant will contribute to the restoration of the chapel’s renowned gesso panels and return the chapel to its original purpose to serve the community for burial and memorial services. All Saints Church, Margaret Street

All Saints Church, Margaret Street is a stone’s throw from the bustle of Oxford Street in the heart of London. It is not just a great building; it is a living and working church. It stands open every day to serve not only its congregation but the thousands of people who go to this part of London for work, education, healthcare, shopping and recreation. The church owes it origins to the Cambridge Camden Society (from 1845, the Ecclesiological Society) founded in 1839 with the aim of reviving historically authentic Anglican worship through architecture. In 1841, the society announced a plan to build a 'Model Church on a large and splendid scale'. The project was supervised, and largely sponsored on behalf of the society, by Alexander Beresford-Hope who chose the architect William Butterfield (1814-1900) to undertake the project. Butterfield designed nearly 100 churches and related buildings during his long career, including the chapels of Balliol College and Keble College, Oxford, and built in a highly personal form of gothic revival. All Saints Margaret Street remains his masterpiece. A chapel had stood on the site - midway along Margaret Street, which runs parallel to the eastern half of Oxford Street - since the 1760s, which from 1839 had been used by a Tractarian congregation, and who agreed that the Ecclesiological Society's model church could be built there. The site was small - just 100 feet square for a church, choir school and clergy house. On entering the church, one is met by a kaleidoscope of coloured tiles, brick, painting and gilding. The designs that adorn the walls and pillars use chequers, zig-zags, stripes and geometrical colour mosaic. Butterfield's tiled floor is deep red with black checks and a white stone diaper, while the north and south aisles have a triangular variation on this pattern. The chancel, one of the most sumptuous and dramatic in London, occupies almost one-third of the length of the church. The chancel is entered through Butterfield-designed gilt iron and brass gates set into a low screen of alabaster and marble. The floor is elaborately patterned in six colours All Saints has been in the midst of a huge refurbishment programme to conserve, restore and clean the interior of the church. The nave of All Saints will be transformed during phases one and two of the refurbishment. The funds for phase three are being raised and will go towards the conservation, restoration and cleaning of the Chancel together with the installation of a redesigned lighting scheme. In January 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed a one off donation towards the cost of the third phase of restoration of the interior of the church. The Trustees are enthusiastic about the ongoing refurbishment project at All Saints and consider that the Foundation’s assistance in getting this work done fits well within their charitable objectives and funding strategy.

The Orpheus Centre

The Orpheus Centre

The Orpheus Centre is a unique performing arts college for disabled young adults, based in Surrey. Their performing arts projects develop their young artists’ skills and experience in drama, music, dance and multimedia, alongside preparing them for independent living. They are a registered charity (charity number 1105213). The Orpheus Centre was founded by Richard Stilgoe in 1998. Their activities are: The Orpheus College uses performing arts as a vehicle for teaching and their curriculum focuses on arts, independence, employment and functional skills. Domiciliary Care offering a domiciliary care plus service, supporting their service users in their independence skills and achieving their own person-centred plans. Orpheus Housing manages two supported housing projects, empowering tenants to be in control of their own homes. In addition to the core learning programme, students have the opportunity to participate in short courses, working with a range of professional musicians. They have regular performances in their Barn Theatre as well as developing large scale productions to be performed externally. In May 2010 they performed All Over the Place at the Linbury Studio Theatre at the Royal Opera House and in July 2010 they then performed Orpheus the Mythical at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre for five nights. They offer their young artists a variety of creative opportunities, bringing them into contact with a range of methods and styles. However, at the heart of their practice is a commitment to unlock the authentic voice of their young artists. In November 2010 the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to fund arts bursaries over a three year period at The Orpheus Centre. In December 2010 six part time bursaries were funded. The Trustees are very impressed with the work undertaken by Orpheus to develop skills and experience in drama, music and dance for less able young adults and consider that supporting arts bursaries at The Orpheus Centre fits well within the objects of The Foundation.

Nordoff Robbins

Nordoff Robbins is a specialist music charity, delivering music therapy and other music services to a broad range of people in a broad range of places including schools, hospitals, care homes, prisons etc. Music therapy helps people in many different ways. For some it has physical benefits, for others emotional or social ones. It can help people feel more motivated, social and self-confident. The people Nordoff Robbins help have a range of challenges including autism, dementia, mental health problems, stroke, brain injury, depression and, in some cases, clients with life-threatening or terminal illness. Nordoff Robbins also provides music and health programmes which open up their services to larger groups who do not require such intense specialist work, but all of whom can benefit greatly from the power of music. In April 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to fund the work of Nordoff Robbins at their Music Therapy Unit based in the grounds of the BRIT School in Croydon, South London. The unit provides an essential music therapy service to children and adults of all ages, who struggle with many different types of physical and mental challenges, as well as being a valuable resource for the community and surrounding areas.

The Bush Theatre

The Bush is one of the country's leading new writing venues. Since its foundation in 1972, it has gained an impressive reputation for its ability to spot and nurture new playwrights and has launched the careers of highly respected talents including Tony Kushner, Catherine Johnson, Stephen Poliakoff, and Victoria Wood. In partnership with the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, they have secured a 125-year lease with a peppercorn rent on the Old Shepherds Bush Library, a spacious, historic and beautiful building in the heart of the community. The work ahead means transforming the library space into an intimate theatre with a workshop, rehearsal rooms, writing rooms, spaces for arts education and professional development, and a café bar and quiet reading room. This capital programme is a challenging one but with the first phase of their development they are aiming to launch their first season in October 2011 in a new auditorium, with a fully working bar and a flexible community and educational space. In July 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to a one off grant towards the first phase of the transformation of the old Shepherds Bush Public Library into new premises.

Weekend Arts College for Performing Arts (WAC)

WAC (Weekend Arts College) provides arts and media education and training for 5-25 year olds, prioritising young people from low income families. They currently have 600 members. Their priority is to ensure that low income and disadvantaged young people can take part in the performing arts at all levels. This extends as far as members want to go and especially if they choose to develop their skills into a future career in the arts. They offer a broad range of art forms and genres so every young person can find something that connects with them and they also run specialist programmes for young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Particular focus is placed on prevocational training for 14-25 year olds and they target young people who are at risk of under achievement at school and who cannot afford extra curricula arts involvement. WAC has lost its Arts Council from April 2012. Their members come from 30 of the 33 boroughs of London and there are 600 people on the waiting list. They offer drop-in sessions for the under-fives and weekend classes for 5 to 25 year olds. There are also evening sessions, holiday courses and play schemes. In July 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to fund senior tutor fees over a three year period in order to secure the future of the college.

Greenock Arts Guild Ltd

Greenock Arts Guild Ltd was established in 1946 and has been operating as a theatre and arts centre since then. Their project is to establish a professionally managed Youth Theatre specifically aimed at young people at risk of offending – to encourage life skills such as team working, literacy and social skills, to build their sense of belonging and self-esteem. Based in Inverclyde, one of the most deprived local authority areas in Scotland, it will be an integral part of the new Beacon Arts Centre currently under construction with an aim of addressing challenging and anti-social behaviour using theatre practice. In July 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed a one off grant towards the purchase of equipment and development and promotion of the Youth Theatre that will be run within the Beacon Arts Centre. The Trustees were pleased that, in addition to being robustly funded from various sources for the capital costs, the Greenock Arts Guild were able to prove they had guarantees of revenue support for the future management and running costs of the theatre.

Music Theatre 4 Youth is a Northern Ireland charity based in Belfast, providing young people from all backgrounds access to top quality musical theatre training and performance for which there is a limited local provision. Music Theatre 4 Youth are expanding their provision of masterclassed at their weekend academy for aspiring young performers, developing the professional music theatre industry locally. Masterclasses in dancing, acting and singing will be led by experts from London's West End and across Europe and students will take a recognised examination in Musical Theatre. In October 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to provide funding over three years to develop Music Theatre 4 Youth's weekend academy and in order that the project can be sustained. The Trustees of the Foundation were particularly impressed with the enthusiasm of the project leaders and the quality of teaching being offered.

In Harmony Sistema England

In Harmony Sistema England runs intense music projects in schools using professional musicians to involve all children in the school or schools in the area. Professional musicians work for 6 to 7 hours per week in the school as part of the curriculum throughout the school year. The whole school is involved with the aim that every child learns an instrument and how to play as part of an orchestra or ensemble. Results have proved that not only does this increase musical ability but it also enhances social skills and levels of numeracy and literacy. Up to 1,000 children agred 5 - 11 take part each year. Drake Music

Drake Music's Ramp It Up" Project will send professional musicians into mainstream and SEN schools to work with pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties and deliver creative music workshops, leaving a legacy of music at the school such that musicians use the equipment already in place at the schools and train the teachers and assistants to carry on delivering music workshops after the professionals have gone. Their music making links in with current topics to enhance pupils' understanding of other areas of the curriculum. The projects will take place in schools acrsss Bristol, Cardiff, London, Manchester and Brighton and benefit approximately 240 pupils agred 11 to 18 per year. The RSC Young Company

The RSC Young Company provides intensive performing arts and theatre skills workshops at the Royal Shakespeare Company for 10 local disadvantaged or excluded young people aged 14-15. Beneficiaries are disadvantaged students who share a love of drama and have been recommended by local schools or institutions. Students will experience a high quality of artistic training at the RSC and aim to achieve a recognised qualification and high profile performance projects at the end of the 10 month course. They will take part in workshops held by creative teams in Stage Management, Lighting, Sound, Events, Producers, Marketing, Press, Front of House, Development and Movement. The aim is to give these young people a breakthrough and support is given to those who complete the course to go into further education, training or the workplace. In October 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation awarded a one off grant to support the Young Company in 2011/12. The Trustees were particularly impressed that the high quality of artistic experience at the RSC will be offered to young disadvantaged people who have an enthusiasm for theatre.

MTA opened in 2009 and is emerging as an excellent training facility for young West End musical theatre performers. In October 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation awarded a one off grant towards the first year's employment costs of an administrator / production manager at the MTA which has been run single-handedly by the Principal to date. The Trustees are particularly pleased that this appointment will help create sustainability for the academy at this early stage in its development and also work towards it achieving charitable status.

The Royal Court is a writers' theatre, dedicated to finding and producing new plays. It creates the conditions for writers to flourish and brings their work to the widest possible audience. In January 2012, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed a grant of £150,000 paid over 2 years to fund the Studio, the Royal Court's creative hub, where new and young writers are nurtured to produce ground breaking theatre. The key projects are the Young Writers workshop programme, Unheard Voices, an outreach programme to encourage writing in disadvantaged and minority communities and Play Development Readings where resources and expertise are shared with established artists. The programmes include a diverse cultural mix of participants and a significant emphasis is dedicated to minority communities. The Trustees considered the Studio to be hugely influential in the lives and careers of young writers and were delighted to become the main funder of the project for a considerable period of time.

Half Moon Young People's Theatre

Half Moon Young People's Theatre provides a variety of courses and performance groups for young people aged 14-17 in Tower Hamlets, London with a high proportion of children who live in low income households. In January 2012, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation awarded a one off grant to Half Moon Young People's Theatre towards their "Careers in Theatre" programme which gives hands on experience in the business, technical and artistic aspects of theatre via course workshops for young people aged 14-17. In addition, participants demonstrate improvements in self esteem, confidence and negotation skills over the course with top students returning to undertake work experience at the theatre. Trustees were particularly impressed by the quality of the training provision and the chance it gives to young people to experience working in the theatre industry. The "Careers in Theatre" week took place in November 2012. Students from local schools particpated in intensive day-long workshops including sound, set design, acting, lighting and stage management and these workshops culminated in a performance. The Irene Taylor Trust "Music in Prisons" delivers intensive high quality music projects in prisons throughout the UK to provide positive experiences and help in the process of rehabilitiation, education and the forming of life skills. Music in Prisons was set up in 1995 to ensure that prisoners would have access to high-quality creative music experiences designed to inspire and engage them in positive opportunities away from crime. In January 2012, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation awarded a one off grant to The Irene Taylor Trust "Music in Prisons - Sounding Out" programme which delivers music projects and enhances rehabilitation of ex-offenders who have successfully completed intensive music projects in prison. "Sounding Out" will provide professional music tuition within the context of creating performances in a band, and arrange paid work performances and placements within a community programme of events. The Trustees were particularly impressed by the quality of the music provision and the training and opportunities given to support ex-offenders in the community. HM Prisons included in the project are Wormwood Scrubs, Erlestoke in Wiltshire and Highpoint North in Suffolk.

Square Chapel is a thriving arts venue bringing live music, theatre, dance, musicals, workshops and youth theatre to over 30,000 audience members and participants in Halifax. In May 2012, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to provide funding over 3 years to Square Chapel's Write to Record project, supporting young people to gain skills in musicianship, song-writing, recording and performing. Write to Record participants are from diverse backgrounds and communities aged 11-18 and will be taught by professional musicians and supported to progress in their learning to play, writing songs, recording and collaborating as well as performing and exploring education and careers in music. Up to 100 young people will be involved over a three year sustained programme, with the equipment purchased for the project being available for others to use as the Arts Centre resource. The Trustees of the Foundation were particularly impressed by the quality of training to be provided and the long term impact on the arts in the Calderdale area.

The Trustees of the Foundation were particularly impressed both with the range of opportunities the work experience will give to young people with a passion for theatre and with the high quality of the provision from professionals at The Egg.

They have recently completed a new; purpose built facility, The Backstage Centre at Purfleet, for the training of technical theatre staff. The Backstage Centre is a state of the art technical facility housed alongside the Royal Opera House production workshop. In September 2012, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to provide funding towards master classes at The Backstage Centre to include technical theatre students, who will have the chance to experience real-time training with some of the world's best bands and theatre companies in a large-scale industry-standard venue, strengthening their practical skills. The Trustees of the Foundation were particularly impressed with the facilities within the new building and are hopeful that their support will encourage others to fund this and other projects at the Centre in the future. Wales Millennium Centre

The Wales Millennium Centre is the largest theatre in Wales with a relatively small pool of technical staff for such a major employer. In 2012, they set up a Creative Apprenticeship Scheme which invests in, encourages and develops future generations of stage technicians, electricians and other "behind the scenes" roles through hands-on experience in house and on tour over the period of a year. The apprentices are offered peer-to-peer training and mentoring in areas including lighting, sound, electrics and rigging. They work within the main theatre and across other venues, both within the Centre and off-site. In September 2012, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to provide funding to cover salary, tools and external training for one apprentice per year for three years. The Trustees of the Foundation were particularly impressed with the opportunities and exceptional training this scheme provides to young technical theatre apprentices at a crucial stage in their career development. As at November 2014, the first apprentice - Joanna - has completed her 12 month placement and concluded that she would definitely like to pursue a career in Stage Management. She is working on The Lion King at the Centre over the Christmas period. The second apprentice - Carly - is currently midway through her placement with the Centre. She grew up with the theatre and has always been acting or helping backstage at school, college and elsewhere. She applied for the apprenticeship as she wanted to widen her experience in technical theatre with a view to becoming a qualified stage manager in the future.

Founded in 1926, The Royal Ballet School provides outstanding vocational training for talented young people between the ages of 11 and 19, preparing them for careers as professional dancers/choreographers. One of the Royal Ballet School's main aims is to make ballet as widely accessible as possible. In 2005, they created a Dance Partnership and Access Programme to focus on and connect with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. In September 2012, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to provide funding to The Royal Ballet School over 3 years toward 2 strands of their Dance Partnership and Access Programme; 1 - PrimarySTEPS for young children at 32 schools in Blackpool, Dagenham, Swindon, Bury St Edmunds and Mansfield. Year 3 children attend a demonstration by students from RBS and take part in 6 workshops. Those identified with talent and aptitude receive weekly tuition for the next 3 years. 2- aDvANCE is their programme for teenagers in state secondary schools and specialist dance centres. they work with RBS students to share experiences and exchange dance ideas via 12 weeks of dance workshops at the schools, followed by full rehearsals leading to the performance of a new dance piece inspired by elements of ballet. The Trustees of the Foundation were particularly impressed with the project's focus on giving disadvantaged talented children an opportunity to experience excellent training in the field of dance.

They are committed to producing, commissioning and presenting works of the highest standards, crossing the boundaries between different art forms. In September 2012, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to provide funding over 3 years to support at least 2 participants each year on the "Wild Card" project; a workshop project which supports and develops young, active, dynamic choreographers and producers by offering resources, mentoring from Sadler's Wells professionals, access to professional networks and provides an important platform to showcase their work. The first three artists taking part in "Wild Card" have been chosen. They are: DAN CANHAM. Bristol-based Dan Canham has performed with companies including DV8 Physical Theatre and Fabulous Beast. Alongside his eloquent work, "30 Cecil Street", he invites performance artist Augusto Corrieri and Pig Dyke, a group of 18 riotous Molly dancers from Cambridgeshire, to perform. IVAN BLACKSTOCK. Dancer/choreographer Ivan Blackstock is well known in the hip hop scene and directs BirdGang Dance Company. Inviting dancers from his company, and with live music, Ivan transforms the space in and around the theatre in a strange and startling way. BELLYFLOP. Bellyflop is a London-based online magazine by eight dance artists whose writing activity runs parallel to their contemporary dance and performance practices. Their programme "The BELLY of the Beast" features performances from these contributors alongside guest artists. The Trustees of the Foundation were particularly impressed with the creative development opportunities this project will give to high potential artists at an early stage of their careers.

The Mayor of London's Fund for Young Musicians

The Mayor of London's Fund for Young Musicians (MFYM) was established to support and benefit young musicians across London, especially those from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. In January 2013 the Trustees of the Foundation awarded a one-off grant to the MFYM's Partnership Programme towards the provision of overall musical development to 7-18 year old musicians by creating partnerships between music services and London's top professional arts organisations. The Foundation's grant is specifically to fund the "Remix the Mix" project - a collaboration between Barking and Dagenham Music Service, Havering Music School and Bigga Fish. This project is aimed at addressing a gap in composition and urban music production, combining classical and urban genres in a "Remix the Mix" orchestra of 50 students (aged 14 - 19) and professional musicians. The Trustees were particularly impressed with the development opportunities the programme will give to young and emerging musicians. Training is offered to children and young people at different stages of their musical development who are otherwise unable to progress their talent due to lack of local provision or financial hardship. The programme offers enhanced musical experiences and challenges those with talent and commitment to stretch themselves and encourages young musicians to continue their musical studies.

Oldham Coliseum Theatre is a building-based producing theatre, dating back to 1885. It is a well-attended venue in the North West of England that produces 8 in-house shows a year and is also a receiving house for a variety of visiting companies and artists. In January 2013 the Trustees of the Foundation awarded a one-off grant to Oldham Coliseum giving 450 pupils aged 16-18 from surrounding schools and colleges the opportunity to attend workshops and learn all aspects of technical theatre, acting, directing, set design and musical theatre. The workshops will provide career pathways and count towards the attainment of the Trinity College Arts Award qualification. In addition, 30 teachers and lecturers will benefit from taking part in career development and vocational training. The Trustees were particularly impressed by the opportunities students will be given to participate in a working theatre together with the aim for schools to continue elements of the programme in the long term.

Hallé is a professional and highly renowned orchestra in Manchester who have been fundraising for the capital costs to refurbish a disused church, St Peter's in the Ancoats area, into a dedicated rehearsal and performance venue - The Hallé Centre. St Peter's is a Grade II listed building, centrally based within walking distance of Manchester Piccadilly train station and, once the work is complete, will be used by the Hallé Orchestra, Choir, Youth & Training Choirs, Children's Choir and Youth Orchestra. In January 2013 the Trustees awarded a one-off grant towards the final fit out costs of the centre, specifically the purchase of cello chairs, bass stools and percussion chairs as well as acoustic screens. In April 2013 the Trustees of the Foundation awarded a grant over 3 years to the Royal Shakespeare Company's Learning Performance Network partnering primary and secondary schools in deprived areas of the UK with regional theatres and RSC practitioners aiming for young people to see and participate in live performances of Shakespeare. The programme includes workshops in schools and local theatres as well as residential courses at the RSC. Over 2,000 students will take part and all will be encouraged to take the RSC Shakespeare Challenge Arts Award. The RSC was the recipient of a grant from the Foundation in 2011. The Trustees noted that the RSC had previously demonstrated how high quality artistic provision can contribute to improved levels of academic ability and attitudes to school generally and they were delighted to extend their support for this project.

Southampton City Art Gallery's permanent collection has more than 3,800 works of art that spans eight centuries. Among the highlights of the collection are the Perseus series (1876-88) by Burne-Jones. Based on a number of Greek myths, it is a heroic tale of knight-errantry and the triumph of good over evil. In November 2013, the Trustees of the Foundation awarded a one-off grant to Southampton City Art Gallery to re-glaze these large, full-sized studies by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones with low-reflective glazing (Optium). The re-glazing will greatly enhance the aesthetic experience for gallery visitors and also means the works can be successfully toured to other galleries. Berkshire Maestros is a music education charity. They ensure access to high quality musical experiences to the widest possible range of children in the Berkshire area, regardless of their background or ability. Shakespeare's Globe is dedicated to the exploration of Shakespeare's work and the playhouse for which he wrote, through the connected means of performance and education. In February 2014, the Trustees of the Foundation awarded a one-off grant to fund a year-long post of Music Department Assistant Trainee for Shakespeare's Globe and the new indoor Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. The trainee will: Support the Director of Music on all shows. Work alongside Stage Managers, Technical and Production Managers. Receive a thorough training in Theatre Sound, including the skills required to set up, use and maintain audio and recording equipment during filming of productions. Have a wide exposure to instruments, their properties, ranges and uses within the Elizabethan and Jacobean theatres. - Learn how to manage technical rehearsals. In February 2014, the Trustees of the Foundation awarded a one-off grant to The Old Vic to support their Old Vic New Voices (OVNV) Talent Programme, which promotes the development of new work and provides mentoring and resources to get projects and people a start in artistic life. They will offer Start Up Awards, to provide small grants to emerging artists all over the UK, often towards actor's rehearsal fees, technical kit and script development. These artists will be provided with back up by individual mentoring and group workshops. A previous grant awarded by the Foundation in 2012 was used to support 20 emerging artists get projects off the ground and the Foundation is pleased to continue supporting the development of new work and emerging artists under the guidance and mentoring of the Old Vic's professional practitioners.

The Scottish Heritage Angel Awards are supported by The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and were established in 2014. The first such awards in Scotland, they will recognise the work of voluntary groups and individuals in protecting and celebrating Scotland's historic environment. The inaugural Scottish Heritage Angel Awards ceremony will take place in Autumn 2015 and will make awards in five categories: INVESTIGATING AND RECORDING - volunteer / community-based projects recording local history and heritage. CARING AND PROTECTING - volunteer-led involvement in saving / restoring heritage sites and buildings. In July 2015, the Trustees of the ALW Foundation awarded a one-off grant to Hackney Empire to fund the Hackney Empire Young Artists Company to learn all aspects of producing their own piece of musical theatre and gain skills and confidence to develop as professional artists. The project will take place over a period of one year in weekly evening sessions and intense weeks in the Summer/Spring holidays, culminating in production at Hackney Empire and tour to Edinburgh Festival in Summer 2016. Although the initial project title was the Hackney Harlem Project, it was important that the young company founded their own identity and mission statement – therefore as the project moves forwards it will be called the ‘TWIST Theatre Company project'. Claire Middleton, Chief Executive of Hackney Empire said "The generous grant towards the full cost of the Artist Development Graduate Programme will allow our young creatives to fulfil their dreams. Batley & Spen Youth Theatre Company Ltd was set up to pay tribute to the late Jo Cox MP and aims to leave a lasting legacy for young people in the town. The company’s first project ‘Hear the People Sing’ includes a production of Les Misérables with a local cast & company. The project will target young people who have not engaged with the performing arts and who do not feel theatre is for them due to social or economic reasons.

Stage One has been providing training and support to new UK producers in theatre for 40 years. The charity has been awarded funding over two years to fund The Producer Placement Scheme that offers a unique hands-on training opportunity within established and experienced producing companies or regional subsidised venues. Successful applicants to the scheme will receive a living wage for the year spending either 6 months with one production office and 6 months with another or 12 months within one producing house where they learn all aspects of theatre production. The training is open to those who do not have the funds to pay for a course or are hindered by their geographic location.

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) received funding towards Next Generation, a talent development programme for young people aged 13 to 18. The programme will recruit talented young people from the RSC’s nationwide partnerships with schools and regional theatres, known as the Associate Schools programme. Some of the best theatre-makers, actors and directors in the business will give advice, teaching, support and practical experience, under the guidance of the RSC, with workshops and residential courses in Stratford-upon-Avon. Theatres Trust, the national advisory public body for theatres that advises on planning, operations, regeneration, development, architecture and design to make theatres sustainable and accessible has been awarded a grant over three years. Since April 2012, ALWF has supported the UK Small Grants Scheme generating 241 applications and 50 awards to address urgent building repairs and help theatres in need and at risk across the UK. Funding will extend this scheme for a further three years and support more theatres with their capital projects. Grants awarded include Royal Court Liverpool, Oldham Coliseum, Hackney Empire, Bush Theatre, Blackpool Grand Theatre, Shanklin Theatre Isle of Wight, Theatre Royal Dumfries and Wyeside Arts Centre, Wales.

Eskdale Mill & Heritage Trust

Eskdale Mill, located near the waterfalls of Whillan Beck in Lake District National Park, has been awarded one-off grant from the Foundation towards the installation of a self-sustaining waterwheel. Eskdale Mill is a grade 2* listed watermill dating from 1539, rescued by local people in 2003 who set up the Trust and rasied £130,000 to save it from County Council disposal. The Mill is now open to the public as a visitor attraction and educational resource on commercial milling, receiving over 7,000 visitors a year. Peter van Zeller of Eskdale Mill said: "After five years of planning and fundraising towards this new waterwheel project, it is gratifying to be offered such support from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation. It covers the last hurdle before construction and installation can begin, enabling our aspiration to make the ancient Eskdale Watermill sustainable for the future."

Society of Antiquaries of London offers the Heritage Conservation Skills programme as part of the conservation of Kelmscott Manor. The project provides two apprentices with work-based placements to develop conservation skills, qualifications and experience. The programme is offered to young people living in the South East/West region. Recruitment will be targeted at areas of diversity, particularly Swindon, with the aim to engage black, Asian and minority ethnic students.

MiSST - Radley College Music Residency 2019

The scheme aims to bring classical music education in challenging and disadvantaged secondary schools; providing funding to enable all students as they enter their secondary school to be given a classical musical instrument, regular group tuition and the opportunities to perform.

The Annual Radley Summer Residency provides an opportunity for MiSST students to improve their music skills through intensive music tuition.

Five theatres have received grants for urgent repairs and improvements through the UK Theatres Small Grants scheme run by the Theatres Trust.

Please note these awards were allocated before the coronavirus crisis and, while the Theatres Trust will continue to support urgent repairs and capital improvements, the priority for the next rounds of these schemes will be to support theatres to reopen after the lockdown.

Ulster Architectural Heritage - Angel Awards 2021

The Heritage Angels Awards highlight the importance of heritage projects and work of the heritage sector to wider society, showcasing best conservation practice and construction in heritage work and skills. Overall the awards aim to recognise and profile achievement of individuals, groups and communities to inspire and increase activity to help conserve and protect built heritage.

The awards in 2021 will launch via an online event in April. At this time the 2021 categories and application/nomination processes will be released, with applications and nominations open through until the summer. Then following judging and public vote, the awards celebration is to be held in November 2021.

Prince's Foundation Building Craft Programme

The Prince's Foundation Building Craft Programme is a full time, 8-month course which gives practical experience in traditional building skills and the opportunity to work towards a Level 3 NVQ in Heritage Skills.

Students have worked on ‘Live Build’ projects at Dumfries House, including the construction of a Chinese Arbour for The Queen Elizabeth Walled Garden and bespoke Garden Gates for the estate. Industry placements have included working with master craftsmen on Exeter Cathedral, York Minster, Kensington Palace and St Fagan’s National Museum of History.

The Glasshouse (previously Sage Gateshead) received Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation support for their Make Music: Young People Programme over 2 years. Since then they've provided an incredible 6,085 music sessions for young musicians, ranging from guitar duets and jazz ensembles to string orchestra and workshops with Jess Gillam. 41% of students receive a means tested bursary to allow them to participate, removing barriers and encouraging collaboration to increase aspirations.

Viva Arts & Community Group, Soham

Viva Arts received 2 year funding from Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation in 2022 to fund creative apprenticeships, youth theatre, workshops and Saturday school for young people in the rurally isolated area of East Cambridgeshire.

Over the past year, Viva Arts delivered 4 Musical Theatre Holiday Workshops for 120 participants, 30 Weeks of Performing Arts Saturday School for Young People and 8 Masterclasses with Industry Professionals with over 120 attendees. Participants reported positive outcomes including boosting confidence, improving literary, developing skills, raising aspirations and achieving nationally recognised qualifications such as LAMDA exams.

We love that Viva Arts is a valued community asset, offering activities that increase volunteering, bring community cohesion and reduce isolation.

Old Vic Theatre Makers

One of our first reports on our 2022 giving is from Old Vic Theatre Makers. Now in its third year, OV Theatre Makers is a free, six month training programme for young people aged 18–25 from across the United Kingdom.

Across the OV Theatre Makers programmes, participants build a toolkit of theatre-making techniques to help them in the creation of their own work through industry led masterclasses and by collaborating with each other. The programme increases access to the arts through masterclasses with industry professionals, bespoke support and free tickets via a theatre ticket bursary. In a new addition this year, The Old Vic hired Streatham Space Project to host the OV Theatre Makers final event, titled ‘…And Tomorrow’. The Scratch Night was comprised of 17 new scenes, monologues and short films, all of which were devised, written, directed, filmed and performed by the cohort. Participants were encouraged to try new ways of theatre-making and step outside of their comfort zone.
