Dance United is a charity that provides professional contemporary dance training to severely disadvantaged and damaged youths aged 13 to 19 years old.
As part of its offering, Dance United have two performance companies: one in Yorkshire, known as YPC, and one in London, known as Metamotion, that act as bridges to professional dance training, meeting weekly in the evenings. There are 15 members in each of the two companies and they learn challenging new choreography and train to an exacting technical standard with industry standard production values. Most of them progress to study dance at a higher level and perform at events up and down the country.
In October 2011, the Trustees of The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation agreed to a one off grant towards funding the Metamotion and YPC performance companies in 2011/12. The Trustees of the Foundation consider that these projects fall within the charity's objects are were particularly impressed with the commitment shown in providing disadvantaged youths with professional teaching and the opportunity to train towards a recognised qualification in dance.
